Giving a webinar with the title “Unlocking nature’s secrets: Engineering cyber-physical systems with swarm intelligence”
Swarm intelligence is the collective behavior of decentralized, self-organized systems, inspired by bees in a hive or ants in a colony, interacting to solve complex problems. It’s nature’s way of showing that many minds, even small ones, can outsmart a big problem! One example is the MYRTUS project, a Horizon Europe initiative, which leverages swarm intelligence techniques for efficient computing continuum management across edge, fog, and cloud platforms.
In this webinar, we talked about the main principles of swarm intelligence and how to design a system from the bottom-up. The resulting emergent behavior is of huge benefit for a multitude of application domains including the edge-fog-cloud computing continuum: Melanie Schranz presented the current research work at Lakeside Labs, Austria, where they focus on bottom-up approaches using agent-based modeling and swarm-inspired algorithms leading to local, highly reactive rules to solve complex problems. This principle allows us to use the benefits of real, nature-inspired swarms acting from the bottom up: robustness, adaptivity and scalability.
