At the Gaia-X Summit 2024, hosted in November 2024 in Helsinki, ArubaKube explained the advancement of Liqo 1.0, representing a major milestone for the project: an enterprise-ready open-source component designed to help organizations simplify and optimize their Kubernetes resource-sharing and federation strategies. As businesses increasingly adopt multi-cloud and multi-layer architectures, Liqo is on track for general availability (GA) in March 2025. It provides the necessary infrastructure to support seamless workload portability across cloud providers, edge environments, and on-premises data centers.
Liqo 1.0 introduces a set of modular components that were not present in past releases, enabling organizations to tailor deployments based on their needs. The component is fully configurable, allowing IT teams to fine-tune interoperability while ensuring low complexity. Designed with CI/CD readiness, Liqo 1.0 integrates smoothly into existing DevOps workflows, making federated Kubernetes more accessible and efficient.
With over 160 active deployments in the private sector, Liqo is gaining momentum as a practical solution for federated Kubernetes management. As a core component of MYRTUS, Liqo is used to create and operate the cloud continuum across cloud, fog, and edge layers, ensuring seamless workload distribution and interoperability in complex environments.
Gaia-X and the European Union’s commitment to digital sovereignty, open-source collaboration, and innovation-driven competitiveness are shaping the future of cloud infrastructure in Europe. By fostering interoperability and reducing dependency on proprietary cloud solutions, Gaia-X establishes a framework that promotes greater control over data and infrastructure. Open-source projects play a crucial role in this ecosystem, enabling organizations to build resilient, scalable, and flexible cloud environments.
MYRTUS exemplifies the power of multi-layered cloud innovation, demonstrating how interoperability across cloud, fog, and edge environments can drive scalable and secure digital ecosystems. By leveraging open-source collaboration, MYRTUS fosters flexibility and efficiency in managing distributed resources, ensuring that organizations can optimize performance while maintaining control over their infrastructure. This approach not only enhances technological resilience but also serves as a model for innovation in cloud-native deployment.
